Job Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and execution-focused Data Center Operations Manager to serve as a working leader within our Lyon data center. This role is designed for a hands-on operator who leads from the front-actively participating in day-to-day technical operations while guiding a small team to deliver high-performance outcomes.

The ideal candidate brings deep, practical experience in data center operations, asset management, and infrastructure support, with a strong bias toward action. This is not a purely supervisory role; it requires direct involvement in troubleshooting, incident response, and operational execution alongside the team.

Key Responsibilities

Hands-On Operations Leadership
  • Actively participate in daily data center operations, including monitoring, configuration, and break/fix activities.
  • Serve as the primary escalation point, while also directly contributing to incident resolution and root cause analysis.
  • Lead by example in maintaining operational excellence, uptime targets, and service delivery standards.
  • Work side-by-side with technicians and engineers to ensure efficient execution of all on-site activities.
Operational Ownership
  • Own end-to-end data center operations at the site level, ensuring performance, reliability, and efficiency.
  • Oversee vendor and colocation activities, while remaining directly engaged in execution and issue resolution.
  • Maintain accountability for incident tracking, resolution, reporting, and continuous operational improvement.
Lightweight Team Leadership
  • Provide day-to-day guidance and coordination for a small team of technicians and engineers.
  • Support skill development through mentorship and on-the-job coaching rather than formal management layers.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, responsiveness, and operational discipline.
Capacity & Process Optimization
  • Contribute directly to capacity planning activities, ensuring alignment with real-time operational demands.
  • Identify and implement process improvements based on hands-on operational insights.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives grounded in practical execution and measurable outcomes.
Project Execution
  • Lead and execute data center projects, including migrations, deployments, and infrastructure upgrades.
  • Act as the on-the-ground owner for project delivery, ensuring timelines and quality standards are met.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally while maintaining a strong execution focus at the site level.
Financial & Asset Accountability
  • Support budgeting and cost control efforts through direct oversight of asset utilization and procurement activities.
  • Ensure accurate tracking and management of data center assets and inventory.
  • Make pragmatic decisions that balance operational needs with cost efficiency.
Communication & Coordination
  • Communicate effectively with global stakeholders, vendors, and cross-functional teams in English (written and spoken).
  • Ensure clear, timely, and professional documentation of incidents, updates, and operational reports in English.
Skills and Qualifications
  • Proven experience in hands-on data center operations, with a strong track record of direct technical contribution.
  • Deep technical knowledge of data center infrastructure, including hardware, networking basics, and facility operations.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate as a working manager-balancing execution with leadership.
  • Strong troubleshooting and incident management capabilities.
  • Experience managing vendors and colocation environments, with direct involvement in issue resolution.
  • Solid project execution skills with the ability to drive outcomes in fast-paced environments.
  • Practical experience in capacity planning, asset management, and process improvement.
  • Professional fluency in English (written and spoken) is mandatory; candidates will be assessed in English throughout the interview process.
  • French language proficiency is highly preferred for local coordination.
About You
  • You are a hands-on operator first, leader second-someone who prefers being on the floor solving problems rather than managing from a distance.
  • You thrive in environments where you can directly impact outcomes through execution.
  • You bring a strong sense of ownership and accountability for site performance.
  • You are comfortable wearing multiple hats-operator, troubleshooter, coordinator, and leader.
  • You lead through action, setting the standard for the team through your own work.
  • You are adaptable, pragmatic, and focused on getting things done.
Experience Requirements
  • 10+ years of experience in data center operations or similar infrastructure environments.
  • Demonstrated experience working in hands-on technical roles within data centers.
  • Prior experience in a lead or supervisory capacity, with a focus on working leadership rather than pure people management.
  • Experience with colocation environments and vendor coordination.
  • Familiarity with compliance frameworks (SOC, ISO, PCI) is a plus.
