Technical Interviewer (Data Engineering Expert)

This is a fully remote, part-time, contracting position.

About the Job:

Data engineering is a completely new position at CobbleWeb. We have expertise hiring software engineers, but as our hiring needs expand into data engineering for the first time, we need some help creating a recruitment process that is consistent, reliable, and repeatable. As a senior data engineer with solid experience in hiring other senior data engineer, your role will be to understand our hiring needs, advise on the best way to test and evaluate technical skills of candidates, and design and join technical interviews with our team. We expect you not only to have relevant experience but to be truly interested in building technical hiring processes and speaking with candidates.

Responsibilities:

• Understand our business goals and hiring needs to define what “great” looks like in a senior data engineer at CobbleWeb.
• Create a screening call guide to assess project relevance and technical depth, designed for use by non-technical interviewers.
• Build a complete technical evaluation process for data engineers, including:
  • Live or asynchronous technical exercise tailored to our needs.
  • Evaluation scorecard with expected answers, objective points system, and red flags.
  • Structured technical interview format to probe for real-world experience, not just theoretical trick questions.
• Conduct or co-conduct initial technical interviews to calibrate and train our team, until we’re confident taking over independently.
• Advise on improvements in our hiring approach and documentation where needed.

Who You Are:

• A senior data engineer with experience in Python, SQL, AWS, ETL and more - please check our tech stack at
• Experienced in conducting technical interviews, assessing technical tasks, and coding challenges, as well as building technical hiring processes.
• Possess outstanding communication skills in English, ensuring clear and effective interaction with candidates.
